HCT - so BIG on Respect!

The brief offering below comes from a former HCT inmate, one who has finally seen the light and turned her back on the Empire of Evil and Hypocrisy. How many more are there out there, who will be doing the same very soon?

Like many other teachers, I became one because I felt a calling to serve, a need to help create a new tomorrow. And when I signed up for HCT, I was informed that I would be working in a country that respects teachers.
Yet what did I find here? I discovered that if I clocked out even a single minute early, I would be docked pay. I discovered that when I come in early, I will not be paid a dirham extra. And I discovered that if I had to work a weekend, I would not be given time any time off in lieu.
Yes, the HCT is VERY big on respect for teachers!
I was also assured that the students here are very respectful. Well, if what I have experienced represents respect, I would loath to feel the treatment that they dish out to those they don’t like. Quite simply, if a girl has any reason to believe a teacher is ‘bad’ (i.e., gives homework), they just run and complain and always get their own way. In fact, on my very first day here, one of my darlings made it very clear that she would call her ‘relatives’ in Abu Dhabi and life would become quite uncomfortable for me.
So yes, HCT’s students hold their teachers in VERY high regard!
Even worse, any teacher who makes the precious little darlings actually do some work gets instantly harassed by the administration. This typically takes the form of random extra tasks, difficulties in securing documents, and the worst allocation of rooms and classes. By the way, the local Emirati management is quite incompetent and corrupt, and any attempts to obtain redress will inevitably result in … more bullying!
A colleague of mine would like to add the following:

“If we complain, a few things possibly happen, none of which are helpful. We aren’t heard. We are told nothing will change. We are told we should be grateful we are paid well. None of these answers are ones that should be going on. We aren’t teachers for the money. I can’t say that enough. Money does not motivate us.

We just ask for respect and to do our job.”

This: "former inmate" says this:
"I discovered that if I clocked out even a single minute early, I would be docked pay. I discovered that when I come in early, I will not be paid a dirham extra. And I discovered that if I had to work a weekend, I would not be given time any time off in lieu"

This is not unique to this HCT. In most Western educational institutions of similar kind, not a penny or cents is paid, if a teacher arrives early or works during the weekend. In the latter case, there is no time off either. This is the situation in Britain, Europe and in America. The reason is simple: educational institutions are non-profit bodies and as such any kind of overtime is at the discretion of the person concerned and hence, is not rewarded unlike in industry.

This: " former inmate" should have been an idiot to have applied to an institution in desert country where former Bedouins rule now. These were camel riders, who now ride expensive cars. Their mindset has not changed over the centuries. They are still savages. This, most people with normal sized brains, know, except, perhaps this: " former inmate".

Almost all , teachers or otherwise at that level, who come to this desert cul-de-sac could not "hack it" in their own countries for various reasons. But the main reason is almost always their poor academic/industrial qualifications. They tend to be at the bottom tier of the bunch in their own countries in terms of their achievements. On the other hand, those whose pay grades are at much higher level- that is as senior administrators tend to be those from Western countries who are well qualified in terms of their educational background and experience, have achievements to show, but have lost their jobs recently because of non-delivery of one kind kind or another. Accepting a senior administrator position at the HCT makes them forget their previous failure for a while, at the same time helps building up their savings and waiting for an opportune time to desert this cesspit called HCT, and back to their own countries. Their example says this: " Enter this desert kingdom, if you need to, armed with a set of higher academic qualifications, and take up a job at a higher administrative level just for a few years only".

Suede Oasis soulmate, Gopalan Nair, who rants about his native Singapore rulers in his blog:" Singapore Dissident", after having moved to America through the asylum route,is back now, just like Suede Oasis after a long absence. These 2 are the losers who do not know how to let go of their past, and move forward to a new life. Nair knows , he can do very little about the rule in Singapore. Similarly, Suede Oasis knows, there is nothing he can do about the towel heads who manage institutions of this kind in this camel dung country. What a duo of misfits and losers!!

The guy’s right. Only the most desperate of westerners would consider taking a job at HCT these days. The place is a complete snake pit, and now relies on cheap teachers from Asia who are accustomed to working in such awful conditions.

The Arab desert patch like this country, where a depraved edifice like the HCT created to educate the thick-headed younger Arabs, works well for those Westerners who arrive as heads or deans having had vast experience as professors and deans in top universities in Western countries. They tend to come for a few years as heads and deans to HCT and like institutions, carry out the orders of their strangely dressed former Bedouins, now their masters, and rule with an iron fist, the ways their masters mandate them. The receiving end victims are the hapless, poorly qualified riffraff earthlings like Suede Oasis and his mob, who are unable to get good positions in their own countries.
The example of Simon Jones who arrived at the HCT as the head illustrate the above point well. He was a professor and a dean, who worked in top universities in Britain and Europe for many years. Hired by the Bedouins masters of the HCT. with an excellent pay package, he carried out the tasks the ways they wanted him, which meant Suede Oasis and his mob, who were poorly qualified teachers at the HCT, were at the receiving end of his blow torch treatment! He carried out his tasks with consummate efficiency for a few years, built up nice savings swelled by yearly bonus packet top up with his salary. When the latter accumulated enough, he left the infernal HCT laughing all the way to his bank. He is now a top leader in a top university in Britain, getting a nice salary and is merrily sitting on a mountain of above savings, whilst the poor earthlings like Suede Oasis and the mob had to fight for their salary arrears thanks to the machinations of the Bedouins masters.

Actually dr Simon Jones, or just SiJo to his mockers, got fired from that ‘top university’ in the U.K., just as he was sacked from his previous posting in Central Asia. He is now dispensing his poison in Oman, of all places!

Anonymous said...

@Anonymous 4th Jan Get your facts right. He was not fired from U of Bath or U of Amsterdam, but left to manage Media Lab in Dublin , an overseas venture by the MIT. He is not in Oman, fool. You need to do better , being not a dimwit.

For the information of all: Simon Jones is now a Vice Chancellor at Oman, in their national university. Unlike the creatures who bleat about HCT and fighting for the arrears, he seems to have gained his positions up and up.

For the benefit of the above mental midget (21.48) who claimed that I stated SiJo was fired from the Unis of Bath and Amsterdam: I never said that, but was referring to his most recent UK employer, Cranfield Uni, where SiJo managed to get himself turfed out after little more than 2 years.
He was desperate to find a new employer, and was turned down by several, including at least one in the Czech Republic, where a spirited fight back by staff and faculty ensured that his application was binned.
So now he’s back in The Sandpit, which can in NO WAY be seen as an improvement on his MoD position at Cranford!

@Anonymous 22:40 It is Cranfield dimwit, not Cranford. You have very limited brain cells count and hence you are screwed at the HCT. You have no knowledge of the pecking order of top academic positions, having not worked in any university.
The MOD just partly finances the Cranfield security centre which is not strictly a proper wing of the MOD. The pay grades are subjected to 40% of income tax, as compared to a vice chancellor's paygrade in Oman, where he does not have to pay income tax for a start, for a salary which is easily quadruple of what he was getting at Cranfield He gets bonus too every year. At Cranfied.he was Just a Pro vice-chancellor, and a Vice-Chancellor's position in a National University-that too recently formed by the merger of several colleges in Oman, should be worth a try for any aspirant.
As for Czech Republic, who would go there given the hard militancy in academia. He has PhD DSc , both doctorates, where as it appears you have none, and hence you can simply comment nonsense being a loser wallowing at the HCT cesspit.
Whatever you say dimwit, he is a winner -looking at the positions he held and holds, and you are a perennial loser at the receiving end of the Arabs' blow torch!

@Anonymous 22:40
Simon Jones was employed by the Cranfield University, not the MOD. MOD employs only Civil Servants who worked in British ministries. A Civil Servant is protected from dismissal, and if he/she is found to be inefficient, he/she is simply moved sideways to another ministry. Job security is thus guaranteed in British Civil Service. Hence get your facts right, as your knowledge is very poor outside the HCT shit hole.

Reading Simon Jones in "Reflections", I can see the low life Suede Oasis, who is really the @Anonymous 22:40 above posted this there:
"So you had to leave another job? How many times have you had to ‘move on’ SiJo?! Clearly you are crap at your job, but don’t let this stop you messing things up for others! At least the guys in Czech tumbled you before you were even able to start trashing the place!"

As I posted as @Anonymous 03:58 above, Suede Oasis has been a perennial loser, a lackey who could not hack it in his own country, which I guess is Britain. His poor academic background means, he could only be employed as a teacher at the HCT,and his militancy meant, he had to fight for his arrears of pay after he was sacked . My advice to him is to go back to university and study for higher degrees.

I would not work for towel-headed bastards who inhabit the desert land for any money. For me, worst any human can do is to lick Arab's shoes. Suede Oasis did at a lower capacity and Simon Jones did at a higher level.

In his 4 years at the HCT and few years at Kazakhstan, Simon Jones must have had enough savings to live comfortably without even to work again. If you have to lick Arab's shoes, do it as a well-paid top administrator. That was my message in the very first post above.

Czech professionals are poorly paid. Even Czech footballers (that is, soccer players) who are normally paid relatively more, do not like their " poor emoluments" and move to Western European clubs. That being the case, I cannot imagine Simon Jones , who is pay-conscious moving there.

As he says in his "Reflections" and explained in the national University of Science and Technology website, this is a new university , and given the close relationship between Oman and Britain< I can see why this Oman university went for a British academic. I can remember, the Caledonian College of Engineering there, which is now part of this University, in its inception recruited a British academic to to develop it.

One has to move jobs, if one is interested to climb up the professional ladder. These days academics move universities. This happens because, they have adequate academic and professional qualifications to get new jobs, increasing their pay packets every time.It is only a poorly qualified lackey like Suede Oasis, who stay frozen where they are!!

I agree with you about Czech academic. See: https://mjbojdys.wordpress.com/2017/06/03/something-is-rotten-in-the-academia-of-the-czech-republic
I cannot imagine Simon Jones or any Brit going there.

There are a few Westerners who went to this area, to institutions like the New York University, Rochester institute of Technology and Michigan State University which are outreach centres of the respective USA-based main campuses, as assistant professor, associate professor, and professors on the strength of their PhD and university research and teaching experience. They have done very well linking with the respective USA-based main campuses, producing good research outputs in their areas. Their bank balances in US Dollars have been significant through deposits from the tax-free earnings. They would not have touched this HCT, which is essentially like a polytechnic or a local college of further education.

So a guy leaves behind a secure job at a top notch western university in the UK and takes up a post at a fifth rate college in a third world country - and that’s an improvement? No matter how much they pay, the drop in status is enormous, and the ‘joys’ of living in a desert shytehole such as Oman are very limited.
The term ‘‘elephant’s graveyard “ comes immediately to mind!

@Anon 21.27
You have no knowledge of universities, and I guess never worked in a university. That is the reason men like you were screwed by HCT Arabs.
That makes you bitter. You should have had a PhD and a good university experience, which you did not have, to have avoided your humiliation at the HCT, as you would have stayed in your own country with a career. What a pity!
This guy was a pro vice chancellor which in British terms means just a glorified head of a department. Not a top notch job. He was not even a deputy Vice chancellor. A vice Chancellor in a university anywhere is a better position as he can come back as a vice chancellor in a British university later.
He was not as dumb as you all were to work at the lowest level of a teacher in HCT, and kicked everyday by the Arab masters.

Unlike you, he will earn tax free money-plenty of it at the end of his tenure in Oman.
BTW, He was not fired as no one fires a head of the department in a British university, where he recently served for over 2 years, as after 1 year, he would have got a tenure as per British university rules.

Your mind is the graveyard, I can see, because the HCT Arabs converted whatever small size brain you had, into a worthless graveyard!

In the very first post , in the last paragraph, there was a brief comparison between Suede Oasis and Gopalan Nair who rants in his blog: " Singapore Dissident". Although , Suede Oasis was mentioned because he follows Gopalan Nair's blog, the comparison is equally valid for all those HCT 'inmates' who were put on hard labour by the Bedouins. These hapless 'inmates' had to undergo the torture , because they would not get any other better job in their country, and were lured by the greed of tax fee salary and paid holidays back in their country. Bedouins respect doctoral qualifications and anything less means Dickensian 'workhouse' conditions!

The difference between Suede Oasis and his likes and Gopalan Nair is significant. Gopalan Nair earned a very good university degree in law in Britain and later got an internship at the Middle Temple in London , which is a prestigious legal establishment, dating back to centuries, from where top lawyers emerge and some eventually become judges in high court and supreme court. Gopalan Nair's mistake was to return to his native Singapore-his country of birth, and indulge in opposition politics. That got him into trouble with the Singapore Chinese rulers, and he had to run away to seek asylum in the USA. He is now an immigration attorney in California. Just like Suede Oasis , he expects a change in the attitude of his enemies, which is not going to happen.
The HCT 'inmates' like the guy who bleats about respect in the news piece, should understand that he like others is lucky not to have received the mandatory 20 lashes, and kicked out of the country screaming and bleeding!

It is insane to indulge in ridiculing Simon Jones, when Emeratis kicked your asses, destroyed your souls, your will to live, drew up dodgy contracts and withheld the money which has almost finished you; hence you need to focus on yourselves, rather than arguing about how Simon Jones left a "top notch" job in Britain and works in Oman in a lesser prestigious position. The simple fact as a poster suggested above is he gets tax free pay packet which is almost 3/4 times his Cranfield pay packet; he can put most his earnings in tax saving schemes living in Oman that will enable him to pay a nominal tax when he eventually returns to Britain. For a British resident, these schemes are not possible now, and the existing ones are coming under internal revenue scrutiny. Many pop stars and footballers, resident in Britain, who put money in these schemes, have had to pay millions of Pounds of backdated taxes recently as a result.

In Britain, more than 50% of his paypacket was taken by the taxman. He is now a Vice Chancellor in a University in Oman which means a hefty tax free income. Many tax-free schemes are open to him as an overseas resident.

He was able earn a lot of money working in the HCT, by simply making your lives difficult, putting thumbscrews on you, and on the whole could humiliate you in all manner ways, which Emeratis wanted, to earn that large tax free income! He will do the same in Oman, and will get even better tax free income! He will be a very rich man in a few years!

How is he able to do it? Because, he has two doctorates and had plenty of university research and teaching experience with a good resume-THIS, YOU DO NOT HAVE.

Hence, focus on getting your academic qualifications better, and leave Simon Jones to himself. Forget Suede Oasis, as a poster says above, he is a 'perennial loser. If he could only spend his time, not maintaining this blog, but going back to university and work seriously towards a higher degree. he can redeem himself from the destruction of his soul, engineered at the HCT.

See what happens when I turn my back for a week or so? Sanjay, Son of Shopkeeper, turns up and tries to trash the place!
Look mate, it's time to get back to the corner shop, as your Dad needs a hand. And while you're at it, dump that obsession you have with Dr Sijo. I did not mention him at all in my posting, but you seem to want to turn everything round to him. Yet you have the cheek to refer to me as a nutter?!
