Hmm, you might bleat and protesteth your not a blackmailer, but putting out a tantalizing post like this, threatening but not actually revealing unspecified dirty secrets, is a textbook ploy of one. HCT still not prepared to meet your demands? Maybe you can scare Sijo into writing you a personal check. Sorry Suede, if the shoe fits...

And talking of shoes, all will soon be revealed concerning Osimon's control-freakery and how it extends to faculty footwear - except his own, of course!!

Don't be intimidated Suede. Show no mercy and pity to these clowns and jokers.
You have a lot of support out there, a large silent majority of hard-working, honest but oppressed ESL teachers. You speak for them. Don't forget it (UAEUwatch).

They are right behind you Definitely-not-Steve! Way behind you! They are cheering you on from safety. You go brother! Rather you than us! The bitterness and venom of your more pragmatic colleagues are in your hands. Swallow it down deep. You know its right for you. It's what you were made for. In fact, it's all you know to do. There's nothing else you were ever any good at. Enjoy.

Thanks for the words of praise, SiJo. I find them very motivating!

Well get moving then, SO!

I see that SiJo has left his calling card here too:

His remarks are typically self-effacing!

SiJo must feel so proud and confident of himself when he struts the hallways of ADMC. Knowing that so many of his faculty despise and/or pity him must be extremely rewarding to such an intelligent man.

Except those who have sent him messages of comiseration, of course - those sycophants will please him no end, I'm sure!

Sijo, look in the mirror...!

Non-Sustainable Leadership
o Some leaders, by virtue of their personality and style, consume energy. Even high performing organizations can be “run into the ground.”

Toxic leaders
o Some in leadership positions have a style that is so destructive that they not only do not add value, they are a detriment to their organizations.

Toxic Leadership Defined
o An apparent lack of concern for the well-being of subordinates. (Definitely!)
o A personality or interpersonal technique that negatively affects organizational climate. (Very definitely!)
o A conviction by subordinates that the leader is motivated primarily by self-interest. (Absolutely!)

BTW, Sijo - where DID you (ever) learn your management skills???

While it's implausible SiJo actually wrote this, it's curious that almost pretty much the same letter - minus the deliberately provocative anti-Emirati bigotry - appeared in the print version of The National today, under the moniker "Steven Wade, Abu Dhabi". Hardly a coincidence...

Clearly a bad dose of plagiarism - 'Suede' at his worst, I guess!

Letters to the Editor

Last Updated: Apr 24, 2011

Your feature asked the perennial question: Why are so few reading Arabic books? (April 23). But that which holds Arabic culture back is an overall refusal to engage with literature, not any concern with illiteracy.

The average reader in the Gulf reads four pages of literature a year. Compare this to the UK - where an average reader consumes eight books a year; and the US - 12 books a year.

Steven Wade, Abu Dhabi

But .. I thought Suede/SWade was in Dubai?!?

And here's the original from The National's letters section:

Dr Simon Jones ADMC

What holds the Arabs back is their refusal to engage with literature, not any illiteracy. The average Gulf Arab reads four pages of literature a year. Compare this to the UK - eight BOOKS a year; and the US - TWELVE books a year. The Arabs' cultural inferiority is therefore laid bare by the statistics.

Interesting, eh?

"But .. I thought Suede/SWade was in Dubai?!?"

At least, that's what's being claimed about "C" aka "Poodle Pelham', the author of the other shit sheet, http://adwcamp.blogspot.com/.

Let's be c lear about who's who...

(nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

So, either somebody's got their lines crossed, or there's a serious bit of red herring baiting going on.

Or ... maybe there's a hint of truth in this one? I think we deserve to be told, SO! Or should that be PP...?

The fine doctor can be seen here...

Have to laugh!!

Here at ADMC we're all extremely disappointed by the news that the dear doctor will be departing much sooner than anticipated. It seems we just can't have too much of a good thing, eh?!

And he's OFF!! (at last...)

Recently Dr. Simon, Jones, Director of Abu Dhabi Men’s College has indicated his intention to leave HCT for a new assignment in Central Europe.

University College London, National University of Singapore and Carnegie-Mellon have founded a University in Astana, Kazakhstan named after the President - Nazarbayev University. Dr. Jones will serve in the post of Provost, taking over from Anne Lonsdale who returns to be Pro-Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University in the UK.

HCT is grateful for the years of service provided by Dr. Jones, and I hope that you will join me in wishing him the best in his new endeavors.

Mark Drummond

Provost, HCT

Jeez, I'll miss him SO much!

Anonymous said...

Drummond's really exceeding himself with the bullshit there. The uni in Kaz was NOT set up by the US and UK unis mentioned, they are mere advisors and partners. It was set up by the President of Kaz, a well-known tyrant and feared mafia-figure in the economy there.

But of course, Drummo could not resist twisting the truth - it's what he's best at!

Dr Simon Jones (Sijo) is doing extremely well at his elephant's graveyard posting at Nazarbeyev University in Kazakhstan - facing a vote of no confidence already!

Way to go, Sijo - keep those international management skills shining bright!

He's been "relieved of command" at NU, too, and has left the building.

Paradise in Rags said...

Hooray! Cheers all round!!
SiJo's ineffective 'international education management career' now staggers from bad to worse.
Where's his next stop - Sudan? North Korea?
All keen Sijo spotters, please keep an eye out for the next gullible college!

Very happy to report that Captain SiJo has made a mess of things AGAIN at his present posting, in the UK, and is now bound for the Czech Republic.
How on Earth will they cope with this colossus?!?
